Contract Award Announcements

The W.M.Schlosser was recently awarded a new transportation project with the Maryland Department of Transportation Mass Transit Administration . The contract involves the construction of the MARC Halethorpe Station High-Level Platform and Pedestrian Bridge, located near BWI Airport. Major work items include: two high level station platforms, one for Northbound trains and one for Southbound trains; two elevator and stair towers; a pedestrian bridge going over the railroad tracks connecting the two towers; ramps and stairways to provide access; miscellaneous sitework and landscaping. Major trades include structural concrete, caissons, precast concrete panels and beams and slabs, structural steel and ornamental metals, metal roofing, elevators and electrical work. The project is quite challenging due to the fact that train service will be ongoing and the work occurs adjacent to the existing rail tracks. There will be a great deal of coordination required and much of the work will be accomplished during nighttime hours. The contract value is $13,988,000 and the completion time is 670 calendar days.

Another project, which was finally awarded to our firm, is the Design-Build Solid Waste Transfer Station, located in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. This $33,850,000 involves the construction of a new solid waste transfer station, which will receive, compact and prepare solid waste for shipment via trucks or rail service. We will be working with SCS Engineers on this very challenging and exciting new LEED project. A Master Plan must first be developed over the next several months. Major trades include extensive sitework with parking areas and roadwork; pre-engineered metal building contruction; a scale facility; mechanical and electrical; railroad construction.

Work is continuing on our recently awarded Design-Build project with the U.S.Postal Service. The project award was based on Best Value, comprised of both Technical and Price proposals. This project, located in Capitol Heights, Maryland, involves a mechanical and electrical upgrade to the USPS Southern Maryland Network Distribution Center, formerly known as the Bulk Mail Center. The project is heavily phased, as work in the 24 hr/day facility may not be disrupted at any time. We are working with Min Engineering, our design-team partner.  Major trades include: selective demolition; scaffolding of high-bay areas;ductwork;temperature controls, and electrical. The $16,188,000 project has a duration of 540 calendar days.
