Project Description: The plant was originally constructed in 1981-1982 and serves the town of Tangier population with an estimated population of 500. With the plant currently operating at a reduced capacity, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development is funding this project to address the many issues facing continuing operation of the plant.
Since this project is located on an island, coordination is very tricky. Materials, equipment and people must be transported either by barge or a shuttle boat that runs only twice a day.
Major items of work include:
The rehabilitation of the town incinerator, partial new clear story siding for the treatment plant building, new ventilation fans, plant and sewage storage tank influent force main valve replacement, sewage storage tank repairs – pipe connections and sealing of the concrete slab, drain sump pump station – replacement of all equipment, piping, controls, wiring, equalization tank flow pacing pumps – replacement of equipment, controls, wiring, primary clarifier influent & discharge piping replacement.
Replacement of two rotating biological contactors – tanks, equipment, controls, wiring, effluent pump station – replacement of all equipment, piping, controls, wiring sludge holding tank discharge valve replacement, sludge pump at belt press – replacement of pump, controls , wiring, new headworks grinder and flow meter.
Headworks safety improvements. Secondary clarifier safety improvements.
New interior light fixtures with associated conduit, controls and wiring.
Rehabilitation of exterior doors.
